2013 Corporate Citizenship Award

The Mayor of Hoffman Estates, William McLeod, presented Sears Holdings with the 2013 Corporate Citizenship Award on Thursday, Dec. 19. The award is given to organizations that go above and beyond in making a difference in their communities.

Throughout the year, SHC and our associates regularly support a variety of charities and charitable causes.

This year, Kmart’s  campaign, which supports programs that help mothers have healthy, full-term pregnancies and funds research to find answers to illnesses that effect newborns, raised more than $7.6 million. In November, associates supported another Kmart partner,  when we hosted the annual St. Jude Food Festival and Wing Eating Contest, raising more than $6,000 for cancer research. Additionally, the  campaign underway now, is expected to double the next highest amount raised by any company in a single campaign. Since 2006, Kmart customers and associates will have raised more than $55 million for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Sears has raised more than $18 million since 2007 to help renovate more than 1,400 homes and improve the lives of America’s veterans as part of the . The program just distributed more than $550,000 in Sears’ gift cards to more than 19,000 active duty military families.

The company also supported our neighbors in East Peoria and Washington, Ill. impacted by the Nov. 2013 tornados, by donating essential items to victims of the storms. Associates also made additional donations through the  disaster relief site to support the American Red Cross disaster response. SHC also offered  Reward points to victims in the area.

We are proud of the efforts that SHC and our associates have made to assist charities, individuals and families year-round!
