Kmart and BlueLight.com Prepare for November 2 Release of the #1 Movie of the Year, 'Shrek,' on DVD and Video
'Shrek' DVD and VHS Features an All-New Longer Ending, Kmart Launches 'Shrek' Promotions
This summer's biggest movie is getting much, much bigger. Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) and its wholly owned ecommerce subsidiary, BlueLight.com, are preparing for the DVD and VHS release of DreamWorks Home Entertainment's 'Shrek,' currently the highest-grossing movie of 2001. The home release, which features a never-before-seen ending, will be available in-store and online and will be supported with several exclusive promotions.
'Shrek' DVD ($19.95) and VHS ($15.95)
The biggest movie of the year, 'Shrek' features the comedic voice talents of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow. 'Shrek' won the hearts of moviegoers and critics everywhere this summer, grossing more than $266 million domestically. The VHS and DVD release of 'Shrek' will include an all-new longer ending that picks up where the movie left off, showing what happens after the fairy tale ending. The double-disc DVD boasts more than eleven hours of entertainment, including hilarious outtakes, behind-the-scenes views, filmmakers' commentary and a never-before-used technology, Shrek's ReVoice Studio, which allows the viewer to voice a selection of scenes from the movie.
'Shrek' Promotions
Kmart is rolling out the red carpet for 'Shrek,' supporting the DVD/VHS release with in-store and trackside promotions. On November 4, Kmart stores across the country will hold a 'Shrek'-inspired beanie bag toss, giving boys and girls a chance to win a video or a free Sour Green ICEE drink, as well as 'Shrek' stickers and temporary tattoos. Kmart stores with restaurants also will hold coloring contests, with the grand-prize winner in each store receiving the green guy himself -- an official, ogre-size 'Shrek' standee. Other in-store promotions include custom 'Shrek' gift cards and an exclusive "The Story of Shrek" CD/CD-ROM with purchase.
Kmart also is teaming with Phillips Electronics to promote 'Shrek.' Consumers purchasing the DVD at a Kmart store will receive a coupon good for $20 off a Phillips five-disc DVD player or $10 off a Phillips single-disc DVD player.
'Shrek' Takes on NASCAR
Kmart and DreamWorks even brought the excitement of 'Shrek' to the race fans of NASCAR. At the October 28 NASCAR race at the Phoenix International Raceway in Arizona, the Kmart race team's car was 'Shrek'-ed out, featuring a special new paint job showcasing the kind-hearted green ogre.
